And while Laos maintains much of her trademark charm and all of her reckless indestructibility, it is also different in significant ways - which largely explains why some other reviews of this book describe Murphy as cranky, preachy, angry and overly-political. ![]() I'd previously read her original (and excellent) India/Nepal trilogy - Full Tilt: Ireland to India with a Bicycle, Tibetan Foothold and The Waiting Land: A Spell in Nepal - written in the mid-1960s. The title is both a clever nod to her 1983 book Eight Feet in the Andes (in which she, her 9-year-old daughter and a mule explored the length of Peru), as well as a statement of fact, since early in this story she has is involved in a traffic accident which leaves her crippled and hobbling around on one foot for the rest of her journey.
